HAPPY BIRTHDAY
"Bharat Ratna" Sir.....
C .V . RAMAN
Indian Physicist
Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was an Indian physicist, who carried out ground-breaking work in the field of light scattering, which earned him the Nobel Prize for Physics in the year 1930 and was the first Asian to receive a Nobel Prize in any branch of science.
He discovered that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in wavelength. This phenomenon is known as Raman scattering (or the Raman effect).
Raman was honoured with a large number of honorary doctorates and memberships of scientific societies --
- Knight Bachelor (1929)
- Hughes Medal (1930)
- Nobel Prize in Physics (1930)
- Bharat Ratna (1954)
- Lenin Peace Prize (1957)
- Fellow of the Royal Society.
